A mythology with a job.

Four characters carry the same message: future humans, quantum couriers, a mossy broadcaster, and a scribe at a typewriter in the forest. Robert Macfarlane meets Douglas Adams.

Meet the broadcasters

The forest frequency · recorded today

“I broadcast on the forest frequency. The mug is the receiver. The morning is the tuning.”

The vessel, black ceramic

01The reporters

The Hyperbeings

Future humans who watched peace win. They report it as fact, with flat certainty — like a weather presenter delivering a forecast that happens to be final.

The transmission you are reading was sent by them. Not as belief. Not as hope. As a record of what already happened, broadcast backwards through ceramic.

Small astronauts at the saucer controls

02The couriers

The Tiny Travellers

Quantum time couriers. Small, suited, and precise as the pixel one of them is named for. They carry packets of the message through dimensions you cannot see and would not enjoy if you could.

Never grand. Never with tails. Always exact, always helmeted, faintly polite. They prefer ceramic to glass; we have asked them why and they have not answered.

03The broadcasters

Sasquatch — the broadcasters

Moss is one of them. There are others.

The ancient mycelium-typewriter broadcaster. Older than the brand, older than the message, probably older than the forest. He is the one who actually sends the transmission.

We made him up. We love him. The conviction underneath him is real.

“I am the mycelium under the floor. The work I do, you cannot see, until it is over.”
Sheets from the typewriter

04The scribe

The scribe at the typewriter

Somewhere in the forest, a typewriter is going. Slowly. The scribe transcribes Moss’s broadcasts onto sheets that arrive as dispatches, field notes, and the occasional mug.

You are reading the scribe’s work right now.

A note on naming

BigFoot: the name

Transmission Vessel, dark cerulean ground

Sasquatch is the name most of the world knows. BigFoot is the name the internet uses. Neither is the original.

Sasq’ets is the original. It is a word from the Halq’eméylem language of the Sts’ailes Nation, on whose ancestral land the forest in our story stands. The English ear softened it; the rest is history.

We use all three names in different moods — Moss when we mean the character, Sasquatch when we mean the figure, BigFoot when we mean the meme — but the name we owe a debt to is Sasq’ets. A small share of every artifact sold goes to land-conservation work on Sts’ailes territory. Specifics live on The Record.

The worlds meet

Hand to hand

A broadcaster and a courier, at the glowing floor of the forest.

The broadcaster

Made up. Beloved. Real.

We invented the saucer and the suit. The conviction underneath them is not invented.

“That’s the broadcast for now. Not goodbye — the frequency doesn’t do goodbye.”Moss · still transmitting

The carrier is ceramic. The receiver is your morning.
